Reg Scenario Analysis

Reg has slowly moved away from a very active lifestyle consisting of working in the mines and playing rubgy to a more reclusive one. He does enjoy meeting up with some of his peers through work in his local, however now that his age and his breathing problems are catching up with him he finds himself in situations where he calls on his children to take him back home more and more often. He particularly enjoys spending time with his many grandchildren where he pushes himself as he tries to take on more than his health will allow him to do. Smaller activities such as going to church with his wife or walking his dog Dave are beginning to be a struggle for him.

Reg is opposing the need for any technology to help him spend more time with his family, they however are strongly encouraging him to take his difficulties more seriously.

His son Simon has suggested the wheelchair as a precaution, as it will allow him to save his breath when it comes to getting to and from the pub, church or park. He feels that it will make him more independent and allow him to do the things that he enjoys more often and if something serious does happen he will have the services available to come and help him out. Something that did get Reg’s attention in this discussion has been the vital stats monitor as this will warn him to take it a little easier when playing with his grandchildren before he would notice it, which could be of great benefit to his health.

He is adamant that he cannot and will not want to learn new technologies so if he does indeed try this chair it best be as straightforward as his TV or phone.
